homecoming game

Friday, September 16, 2022

It was a beautiful evening in the Santa Ynez Valley for  45 of our classmates, family and friends who attended the  Homecoming football game decked out in orange and black attire.  We had a reserved section on the 40 yard line which we  filled enthusiastically.  Some of us actually watched the game while most of us visited and caught up with each other.  Our class was acknowledged during the third quarter, and everyone stood up to a rousing round of applause.
Thank you to Ashley Cohelo, SYVHS Athletic Director, for making the evening so special for the Class of 1972.

golf tournament

Saturday, September 17, 2022
River Course at Alisal
Mike Sell and Marc Riley headed up the golf tournament committee, and sixteen lucky Pirates played a "Best Ball" 18 hole game. Many thanks to our sponsor Rio Vista Chevrolet. The winning foursome won wine donated by Lago Guiseppe and the members of the losing teams were awarded a rubber "pirate" chicken.  All golfers survived and made it to the dinner.

Reunion dinner

Saturday, September 17, 2022
Hitching Post Wines, Buellton, CA

What an incredible evening  for our 50 Year Reunion.   The outdoor venue was perfect for mingling and visiting with our dear friends.  Decorations included orange rose bouquets on the tables and lots of fun memorabilia shared by numerous classmates.  A table was set up to honor those Pirates who have set sail before us.  There was plenty of wine donated by Marsha and Dana Merrill from their Pomar Junction Winery as well as wine from Lago Guiseppe which was provided by Marc Riley. Signature drinks and a no host bar were also available. A delicious round of passed Hors D'oeuvres preceded dinner. After a wonderful blessing from George Freeman, we enjoyed an elegant buffet of oak barbequed tri-tip and chicken, served with grilled vegetables, beans, salad, salsa and bread.  An amazing strawberry shortcake dessert topped off the meal.

After dinner, your reunion committee was introduced,  golf tournament winners announced, names were drawn from a vintage football helmet  for two beautiful gift baskets created and donated by Marsha (Kent) Merrill.  The award for who traveled the farthest was given to Annalisa Windh, who ironically came all the way from Indiana after moving there from the Valley this summer.

Conversations flowed, hundreds of hugs happened and renewed connections were abundant.  Thank you to all who came, and we really hope to keep in touch until the next one...make sure you keep us updated on new contact information so we can find you for our next great reunion.
